Problem Statement

The plant is currently facing notable operational inefficiencies due to the lack of real-time visibility into vehicle movements within its premises. This gap in monitoring limits the ability to accurately track vehicle status, coordinate flow, and manage resources effectively, which in turn disrupts the smooth execution of transport-related activities.

Challenge

We have Identified 3 macro challenges:

  • Limited Real-Time Visibility: Difficulty in tracking the exact location and movement of vehicles within the plant, leading to delays and operational bottlenecks.

  • Inefficient Space Utilization: Lack of clear insights into space occupancy, resulting in overcrowded areas, underutilized zones, and inefficient resource allocation.

  • Unclear Vehicle Status & Staging: Inconsistent methods for categorizing vehicles and identifying their current stage, causing confusion in dispatch, loading, and unloading processes.

Outcomes

  1. 42% Faster turnaround
  2. 60% Fewer SLA breaches
  3. 75% Fewer coordination calls
  4. 30% Better yard efficiency
  5. 40% Less idle time

Key Design Decisions

  1. Map-first vs Table-first

The most critical decision: plant managers think spatially, not in spreadsheet rows. A map-based overview turned vehicle coordination from abstract data into visual context — instantly showing bottlenecks and proximity.

  1. Status + Location

Location alone is useless without context. Each vehicle marker displays stage, load status, and dwell time — giving managers actionable information at a glance

  1. Color-coded categories

Initial monochrome markers were hard to scan. After PM feedback, we introduced color coding by stage — making patterns and bottlenecks instantly visible
